The Syracuse University Gravitational-Wave Group invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in gravitational-wave astronomy and astrophysics. The initial appointment will be for one year with extension to three years, contingent on funding and performance.
The successful candidate may start as soon as March 1, 2018, although the actual start date is negotiable and a later start date aligned with the 2018/19 academic year is possible.
The Syracuse University Gravitational-Wave Group consists of faculty members Stefan Ballmer, Duncan Brown and Peter Saulson, research assistant professor Ryan Fisher, 1 postdoc and 12 graduate students. The group is a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and has a broad range of research interests in gravitational-wave astronomy including: detection of gravitational waves with Advanced LIGO, astrophysics of compact object binaries, detector characterization, and next-generation detector development. The Syracuse group has excellent computing and laboratory facilities. We are particularly interested in candidates who will work on the astronomy and astrophysics of compact-object binary mergers.
